Summary, Etc.The best packaging material for the rambutan fruit was determined using `Seematjan', `Senjonja', and `Maharlika' varieties from the UPLB orchard. These were packed in sealed or perforated polyethylene (plastic) bags. The control was exposed. Changes in physico-chemical and other properties were evaluated. Weight loss in rambutan which could be as high as 32% after five days exposure at ambient condition was reduced to 42 and six times by packing in sealed and perforated polyethylene bags, respectively. "Senjonja" which has a larger surface area lost weight faster than "Seematjan" or "Maharlika". Fruits kept in sealed bags developed significant browning faster than those in perforated bags or at ambient conditions. After two days of storage in sealed bags, browning of the fruits reached up to 75%. On the other hand, rambutan in perforated bags were still fresh up to the fourth day. Total soluble solids (TSS) slightly increased in fruits in sealed but not in perforated bags. The sweetest fruits came from the exposed samples
