Summary, Etc.The study determined the supply and demand for bamboos and formulated a program for the development of bamboo-related industries in Sab-a Basin. Bamboo is extensively used as construction material for low cost houses. It is also used in fishing, aquaculture and cottage industries. Bamboo is utilized in fishpen construction, in fishing gears like fish trap and fish shelter, as outriggers for boats and as stakes for mussel culture. Bamboo is also the chief raw material for various handicrafts like bags, baskets, hats, fans and wall decorations. Sala sets, dining sets, beds and other furnitures made of bamboo are also gaining popularity. The supply of bamboo comes mainly from natural stands. The depletion of existing stands led to increased prices of bamboo, some of which came from neighboring areas. Feasibility studies showed that establishing bamboo plantations to meet the rising demand was profitable. Net benefits from 1 ha bamboo plantation was P3,510.00 for the first year and could increase to P11,510.00 by the sixth year. The same plantation size gave a net present worth (NPW) of P16,153.00, a benefit-cost ratio (B/C) of 3.9 and an internal rate of return (IRR) of 39.73%
