Title Statement
Peanut varietal screening for shade tolerance and enhanced biological nitrogen fixation
General Note
College, Laguna: IPB, 1987. 47p. -(UPLB-PCARRD-NCARS Proj.)
Summary, Etc.
Studies on screening and selection of peanut varieties/lines for shade tolerance, high nitrogen activity and yield as influenced by inoculation under partial shade conditions were undertaken. The most effective strain-host genotype combination for optimum symbiotic nitrogen fixation and yield under partial shade conditions were also determined. The UPLB shade structure and other modified structures covered with black nylon cloth, were used in screening peanut advanced lines/cultivars for partial shade tolerance. Among the 20 peanut cultivars tested, only seven produced a mean pod yield of over 1 t/ha when grown under 36% shade conditions. These are IPB Pn 12-14, BPI P9, UPLB Pn-6, UPL Pn-2, IPB Pn 3-127 M9, E.G. Red and ICGS (E)-11. Specific promising genotypes were identified at three shade conditions (0, 32 and 58%)
