Title StatementCytology of selected local coconut cultivars
General NoteBaybay, Leyte: VISCA, 1986. 38p
Summary, Etc.The presence and degree of occurence of chromosomal aberrations during meiosis in nine local coconut cultivars and the degree of their associations with pollen fertility and viability were studied. Abnormalities in chromosome number and behavior such as abnormal pairing at diakinesis, lagging and unequal distribution at anaphase I and II, bridge formation at anaphase I, multiplate formation at metaphase II, micro-nuclei formation at telophase II and unsynchronized movement during the second meiotic division were seen in the cultivars examined in varying frequencies. Baybay tall had lesser chromosomal irregularities compared with the dwarfs. Coconino had the widest range in types and the highest frequency of abnormal meiotic cells. Deviations from the normal sporad (tetrad) type were also observed, while highest frequency of normal sporads was recorded in Lingkuranay (99%)
