Summary, Etc.Andrographis paniculata was subjected to phytochemical screening and microbiological assay. Tests for the phytochemicals alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, glycosides, tannins and cardenolides were made on the ethyl alcohol extract to determine their presence. Difference extracts using four extracting media- water, ethanol. Ethyl acetate and hexane – were tested for anti-bacterial properties on four common bacteria – Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, escherischia coli and alcaligenes faecalis. Reults showed that the water and ethanol extracts inhibits E coli, A faecalis and S aureus. The ethyl acetate extract inhibited the growth of S aureus only. There was no inhibition on the B subtilis plates. Results showed that the phytochemicals alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins and tannins were present.
