Summary, Etc.Field experiments on the effects of the different planting schemes of intercropped ipil-ipil and its herbage utilization both on the growth and yield of corn and to the herbage yield of ipil-ipil were conducted. The effect of these treatments to the chemical properties of the soil was also studied. Two flint types of corn, Phil DMR 2 and Phil DMR, were used during the first (Oct 1979 - Jan 1980) and second (Feb-May 1980) cropping seasons, respectively. DMRI was also used during the third (Apr-Jul 1981) and IPB Var. 1 for the fourth (Jan-May 1982) cropping seasons. The first, second and fourth cropping seasons showed that the pure stand of corn fertilized with 60-30-30 kg/ha NPK (inorganic) gave the highest yield. There were no significant differences, however, between the plots in single hedgerows with full utilization of the herbage. The third cropping season confirmed the efficiency of the plots in single hedgerows with full utilization of the herbage as it outranked the pure stand of corn (inogranic NPK). Comparing the planting scheme and herbage utilization for the four cropping seasons, the results showed high yield with planting of single hedgerows with full utilization of the herbage. The fresh herbage yield of ipil-ipil from subsequent regrowth over four cutting periods was consistently higher in plants established in single hedgerows. This was true in both the 30 days old and 60-120 days old regrowth. The analysis for the chemical properties of the soil showed higher available phosphorous and exchangeable potassium prior to the conduct of the experiment. There was a marked decrease in both the available P and exchangeable K at harvest. Soil pH also declined at harvest. However, with soil organic matter content, a marked increase was observed in plots fertilized with ipil-ipil
