To determine the quantitative echocardiographic dimensions of the left ventricle after intense endurance training, a prospective observational study of 139 athletes of the Philippine Team to the XVI Southeast Asian Games underwent, eChocardiographic analysis in the Philippine Heart Center from September to November 1991, at the Echocardiographic Section of Cardiac Graphics Laboratory of the Philippine Heart Center. Three groups composed of Group I-A (n ~ 94 athletes with intense endurance training), Group I-B (n =45 athletes without intense endurance training) Group II (n = 16 non athlete control subjects) were studied by echocardiography with emphasis on the structural dimensions of the left ventricle.
