Summary, Etc.Tapered roof shingles from coconut and kaatoan bangkal woods were fabricated and treated separately with the preservatives copper-chrome-arsenate, pentachlorophenol, copper sulfate and copper sulfate + potassium dichromate. Weather and durability tests were also performed on treated and untreated shingles. Fabrication cost for coconut shingles was 42.9% higher than kaatoan bangkal shingles. Treatment cost was higher in thicker and medium density coconut shingles than the thinner and high density coconut shingles while in the installation cost, coconut shingles were 23.7% higher than that of kaatoan shingles. Eleven months of outdoor exposure tests showed that the treated coconut wood roof shingles were still in good condition. The most suitable combinations of thickness, nailing pattern and treatment for medium and high density coconut shingles were found to be two nails regardless of thickness and treatment with either copper-chrome-arsenate or pentachlorophenol
