Summary, Etc.Cassia alata roots were extracted using ethanol, benzene and hexane as the solvents. The extracts were subjected to microbiological and phytochemical screening. The test organisms used were trichophyton mentagrophytes, trichophyton rubrum and microsporum canis. Results showed that the benzene extract and the ethanol extract inhibited the growth of all the test organisms. The hexane extract inhibited T rubrum and M canis but not Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Phytochemical screening of the ethanol extract showed the presence of anthraquinones, flavonoids and tannins.
