Summary, Etc.The effectiveness of calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2), as CO2 absorber of different containers and liners for the transport of rambutan was evaluated. Rambutan fruits from Oriental Mindoro were immediately packed after harvest using the following treatments; a) wooden crate + 0.003 in perforated polyethylene liner; b) wooden crate + dried banana leaves; c) bamboo crate (kaing) + 0.003 in perforated polyethelene liner + Ca(OH)2 ; bamboo crate + dried banana leaves. The crates were transported by jeep and by boat, passing four loading and unloading steps in 12 hours. The combination of wooden crates and perforated polyethylene bags gave the lowest percentage weight loss of rambutan fruits. The highest weight loss was obtained in bamboo crates or `kaing' lined with dried banana leaves. The total soluble solids vary significantly from each treatment. Wooden crates with polyethelene liners exhibited lower incidence of tubercle discoloration than `kaings' with dried banana leaves. Calcium hydroxide inserts did not improve the condition of the fruits in terms of reducing browning of tubercles
