Title Statement
Development of an integrated control system against corn borer (Ostrinia furnacalis Guenee) in the Philippines
General Note
College, Laguna: University of the Philippines Los Banos, 1990. 48 p. -(ICIPE-DOST-PCARRD Proj. No
Summary, Etc.
Field and laboratory studies were conducted to generate information for the development of pest management scheme(s) for corn borer control using intercropping as a major component. In several field trials (two in UPLB, one in Mindanao), legume intercrops did not influence significantly corn borer numbers on naize and its natural enemies (at least in the 2:4 intercropping ratio). Yield did not also differ between monoculture and intercropped maize plots. Larval dispersal showed that about 70-80% of the newly-hatched larvae was observed ballooning two hours after introduction regardless of release points (upper or under leaf surface). Preference studies and larval movement of newly-hatched corn borer larvae in the laboratory were also conducted
