Summary, Etc.Two hundred each of bearing and nonbearing shoots were selected from four 'Seenjonja' rambutan trees. Observations on growth and flowering habits were started after harvest in mid October and were continued until the succeeding fruiting season. Data on yield of 'Maharlika', 'Seematjan' and 'Seenjonja' cultivars were also obtained for three consecutive crop periods. Heaviest vegetative flushes of growth occured from late October to December. Rate of growth slowed down during the dry months of January to April but resumed when the rains started in May. Growth in nonbearing shoots originated from simple terminal buds only while growth from shoots that bore fruit was from several axillary buds. Flowering started in late March, reached its peak in April and continued until early May. Flowers were differentiated in both kinds of shoots. This explains why biennial bearing is not common in rambutan. Three types of flowers were observed in rambutan, namely, staminate, hermaphrodite functioning as female (h.f.f.) and hermaphrodite functioning as male (h.f.m.). 'Seenjonja' with an average production of 41 kg significantly outyielded 'Seematjan' and 'Maharlika' in the three consecutive seasons. The difference in yield between 'Seematjan' (16 kg) and 'Maharlika' (21 kg) was insignificant. The production record represents the first three years of bearing of a young rambutan orchard
