The mechanical and related properties of locally made fiberboards. I. lawanit by A.R. Floresca, R.S. Sasondoncillo and J.O. Siopongco
Physical Description
53-68
Summary, Etc.
Mechanical test were conducted on three types of lawanit hardboards, namely: standard oil-tempered and rockboard. Various properties were determined for the materials both in the dry and soaked conditions. The variation in properties of the standard lawanit boards was relatively higher; those of the two other types were generally lower compared with those for some Philippine mahogany species. The variation in properties of standard and oil-tempered boards were generally greater compared with that of the rock-board. The variation in the properties of soaked material generally exceeded that for the dry material. soaking reduced the strength properties by as much as 55% for standard; 45%, for oil-tempered and 30%, for rockboard. The specimens cut longitudinally with the sheet length generally had higher strength properties. The strength properties of the oil-tempered boards generally exceeded those of the standard type. Rockboard is slightly superior in strength than the oil-tempered board
