Summary, Etc.Outstanding individual plants in the Narrahan Coffea arabica genebank were selected based on heritable characteristics such as internode length, bean size, perocity, and resistance to rust. Seeds from the best plants in this collection were germinated for trial purposes. The selected plants showed sufficiently divergent characteristics to justify utilization of a dissortative mating system for the development of varietal hybrids. Based on these criteria, hybrids were produced from the identified parents last January 1987. However, due to the heavy infestation of berry borer, very few hybrid seeds were saved. These were planted December 1988 in the genebank for future evaluation
