Title StatementProgress to the world of the elderly: unfolding the theories exploited in gerontologic learning through systematic literature review
Physical Description252-262
Summary, Etc.Geriatrics is a branch of medicine that deals with the comprehensive health care of older persons and the well-being of their informal caregiver. Gerontology, on the other hand, is the study of the different attributing factors that affect the normal aging process and its effects on person of all ages. However, these two terms were often used to connote the same thing. As simply stated, the role of health care providers is to give a hand of caring for older adults, to maintain their current status, accept decline and ease the dying. This study was then conducted in order to elaborate the area of Gerontologic Learning. Using a systematic approach following a selection criterion, the study was clever to collect several articles that proposed theories of gerontologic learning. A total of 8 articles take part in this study that somewhat contributed in answering the research question of this study. Findings have indicated that as far as there were several theories presented, they may be viewed and grouped into three main categories such as Biological, Sociological and Psychological Theories to give better understanding. On the other hand, with the number of the articles gathered indicated that there is a decline in studying the areas Gerontologic Learning. However, this study remains to be a positive reinforcement for its possible uses, guide, and basis in assisting health care providers in giving optimal care to the elderly population
