Title StatementFactors affecting the formation of viscose rayon from Kaatoan bangkal, a fast-growing hardwood
General NoteCollege, Laguna: FPRDI, 1984. 16p. -(PCARRD Proj. No. 4603-78-01-01-014)
Summary, Etc.Anthocephalus chinensis (kaatoan bangkal) dissolving pulp was chemically transformed into viscose by the bench model laboratory processing to determine its suitability for spinning to rayon. Kaatoan bangkal had good potentials as raw material for pulp production and was a suitable cellulose-base material for viscose to spin into rayon. Of the factors studied, the low press weight ratio of 2.5 to 2.99 with a steeping temperature of 29 deg C and an alkali solution of 18% resulted in normal alkalinity and cellulose contents of alkali cellulose and desired quality and property of viscose suitable for spinning to rayon than that of high press weight, lower percent of alkali solution and temperature. The varying alpha cellulose contents ranging from 86.60% to 94.74% did not affect much the property and quality of viscose. The viscose remarkably ripened at a short period of 4-22 hours
