Title Statement
Socio-economic survey, description and documentation of indigenous agroforestry practices in Regions V, VI and VIII
General Note
College, Laguna: UPLB, CF, 1986. 77p
Summary, Etc.
One hundred fourteen farmers from seven selected upland farm communities in Regions V, VI, and VIII composed the study. The biophysical (soil, climate, physiography and vegetative cover), socio-economic, behavioral and production technology subsystems were determined. All sites studied had slightly acidic soil with pH 5.5-6.8 and received substantial amount of rainfall (ranging from 260 to 380 cm/yr) with Regions V and VIII considered as typhoon belts. The sites generally had hilly topography and varied cropping systems and vegetative cover. Most of the respondents were tenant farmers with ages ranging from 45 to 64 years. They had low level of education (some elementary grades) and received an annual income ranging from P1,910.00 to P7,465.00. Market, transport and credit facilities were available in almost all study sites. However, there were no electric and telephone services and sewerage system as well as barangay high school (except in one site). Most of the respondents did not have any knowledge or idea about agroforestry as a land use system. Most farmers practiced multiple cropping systems and raised animals such as chicken, swine, goat, duck, carabao and cattle. Except for rice farmers, the rest did not apply chemical fertilizer or insecticide to their crop. They also owned various farm implements, equipment or tools. Very few, however, owned motorized vehicle for transport. No agroforestry technology was observed in all sites
