$aThe pasture legumes phaseolus atropurpureus commonly known as siratro, centrosema puboscens or centro and Pueraria javanica or tropical kudzu were comparatively analyzed to determine their potential as ruminant feed. Proximate analysis was used to determine the quantitative percentage values of the different nutritive components of the samples. Phaseolus atropurpureus had the following composition: 46.33% moisture, 20.17% protein, 3.11% ash, 12.45% crude fiber, 2.03 crude fat and 15.91% carbohydrates. For Centrosema puboscens, the following values were obtained: 44.12% moisture, 25.11% protein, 4.01% ash, 16.45% crude fiber, 3.13% crude fat and 7.18% carbohydrates. And finally, the composition of Pueraria javanica is as follows: 38.59% moisture, 27.45% protein, 5.13% ash, 18.82 crude fiber, 4.07% crude fat and 5.95% carbohydrates. The three legumes promise to be efficient and outstanding feeds even when compared to most commonly used animal feeds. As for the comparative potential of the three samples as a whole, Pueraria javanica is most recommended as ruminant feed and Phaseolus atropurpureus, the least.
