Title Statement
Coconut milk as culture medium for mildew
Physical Description
(CL-1-T-10)
Summary, Etc.
This investigative study aimed to find a suitable and effective substitute for neopeptone, which would be more practical and environment friendly. It made use of coconut milk and coconut water as culture media for mildews. For kinds of culture media were used in the study: Potato Dextrose Agar + Distilled water + Yeast; Potato Dextrose Agar + Distilled water + Yeast + coconut Water, Potato Dextrose Agar + Coconut water + Yeast; Potato Dextrose Agar + Distilled water + Yeast + Peptone. The medium Potato Dextrose Agar + Distilled Water + Yeast + Coconut milk has the same effectivity as that of commercial media which is Potato Dextrose Agar + Distilled Water + Yeast + Peptone in terms of the growth of mildews. The result gave a clear indication that coconut milk and coconut water is a possible substitute ti commercially available neopeptone. The quantitative production of mildews in the two media can definitely match the commercial neopeptone. However the growth of other microorganisms in the prepared culture media was not controlled and is therefore recommended for further investigation
