Growth pattern, flower and cone development of Pinus kesiya (Benguet Pine) and Pinus merkusii (Mindoro Pine) in Northern and West Central Luzon were studied from March 1979 to September 1984. Two peak growths were observed in both Benguet and Mindoro pine (November and July). Flower development was from December to February and male flowers disappeared in the month of April. Female cone growth was very slow in the first year but grew fast in the suceeding years (1.5 to 4 cm. or more in diameter). Matured cones started to open in March and disperse pollen grains 15 to 20 days after emergence
