Summary, Etc.Quantitative and qualitative seed and seedling characters of giant ipil-ipil (Peruvian), K-67, K-8, K-28 and Copil (local variety) were studied for trueness to variety identification. Among qualitative characters, color of epicotyl, petiole, and rachis were useful indices for varietal identification of Peruvian and Copil from each other, and from the K-lines. Among quantitative characters, varietal differences were observed on seed weight, and length and width of cotyledons. These characters were only useful in identifying among seedlots of small (Copil) and large (K-8) seeds. Varietal mixtures in seedlot will be difficult to identify based on seed size alone. Seed coat color reaction to phenol treatment differed with varieties, temperature and concentration. Reaction was very much affected by temperature and concentration
