Summary, Etc.
A number of studies were made to develop techniques for seabass culture in ponds and cages. Optimum densities, rate and type of feeding, growth and survival under seabass monoculture and seabass-tilapia polyculture were determined. The highest fish production in seabass monoculture in ponds was attained in the 2,000/ha stocking density with a mean yield of 463.6 kg/ha after 161 days. In cage culture, highest mean weight increment of 1.86 g/day was observed at 15 fish/cage stocking density with mean weight of 240 g after 90 days. Production was however highest (11.6 kg/cage) in the 75 fish/cage stocking density with a mean fish size of 155 g. A 100% survival was attained in the 15, 30 and 45 fish/cage treatments. Seabass-tilapia polyculture was found beneficial to both fish species at 1:15 ratio or 667/ha seabass and 10,000/ha tilapia. Seabass was an effective predator to young tilapia such that production of seabass and tilapia increased. Fish reject was an economical feed for seabass monoculture. In polyculture tilapia recruit was a good live food for seabass in a 1:10 and 1:15 seabass-tilapia stocking
