Title StatementThe structures and processes of land markets and related transactions and arrangements in the rice industry
General NoteMunoz, Nueva Ecija: CLSU, 1987. 48p
Summary, Etc.The study examined the social and institutional impact of rice-farming and agrarian reform implementation in terms of changing land transactions and arrangements. It also identified the social structures in the rice business which is delineated into production, post-harvest and consumer societies. The land transactions and arrangements were governed by principles of social exchange where resource and type of rewards involved in land markets are extrinsic/intrinsic and unilateral rewards. Extrinsic rewards referred to instrumental services while intrinsic rewards included personal/mutual attraction and kinship. Rewards considered as unilateral were respect and prestige. Small rice farmers engaged in major land transactions and arrangements were mostly lease holders and CLT holders. These arrangements were largely familistic and served to satisfy priority needs. The structural changes in land transactions and arrangements as depicted were observed to have eroded the reported breakthrough in physical land distribution and widespread innovation
