Summary, Etc.
A study on rehabilitation program for severely malnourished 1-3 year old children and its effects on their nutrient intake, physical growth and development. Twenty-five 1-3 year old children with severe energy-protein malnutrition of the marasmic type participated in rehabilitation program for the purpose of determining its effects on their nutrient intake, physical growth and development. The dietary management involves an initial phase characterized by a prudent approach to feeding, followed by a vigorous approach in order to bring about rapid weight gains in a short time. The children had significant weight increments, averaging 2-3 kg per child after 2 months. In addition to physical growth, significant improvements were observed in the children's performance in a local development test, particularly in gross motor and personal-social behaviour
