Title Statement
Effect of rate of fertilizer and crop density on production and insect infestation of corn-peanut intercrop
General Note
Ilagan, Isabela: BPI, 1977. 44p
Summary, Etc.
Eight fertilizer treatments for pure stand and corn-peanut intercropping with 53,333, 40,000 and 24,000 corn plants/ha and 30,000 peanut/ha were evaluated. Seeds of DMR 1 (corn) and BPI Pn 9 (peanut) were used in this study. A higher net return of P3,207.90/ha was obtained in peanut intercropped with corn at 75 cm row spacing with 40-15-15 and 60-40-30 kg NPK/ha fertilization, respectively, for 1976 wet season and 1976 and 1977-78 dry season. This was 91% higher than that of the control. The corn monoculture distanced at 75 cm between rows with 60-40-30 kg NPK/ha during 1976 and 1977 wet season gave an increase of 78% net return compared to the control. The peanut monoculture gave a net return ofP356 and P247/ha in 1976 and 1977 wet season, respectively. In 1975-76 dry season, the corn monoculture gave a negative net return while the peanut monoculture gave a net return of P1,407/ha. In the 1976-77 and 1977-78 dry season, peanut monoculture (without fertilizer application) gave a higher net return of P3,962 and P247/ha, respectively. These results implied that peanut can be grown without organic fertilizer. Borer infestation was significantly different during the dry season cropping
