Title StatementMango production with and without flower inducers
General NoteCollege, Laguna: UPLB, 1980. pp.19-50. -(PCARRD Proj. No. 149)
Summary, Etc.The study was conducted to compare costs and returns of natural and induced mango production. "Carabao" mango trees were sprayed with potassium nitrate (air commercial) Hormudge, and Surebloom at recommended rates of 12.5, 17 and 6 g/li, respectively. Each treatment was applied to three trees in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Data on fruit weight, yield, number and losses were obtained. Yield from induced production (353.4, 263.0 and 260.0 kg for Surebloom, KN03, Hormudge, respectively) was about 5 to 13 times higher than the control (55.9 kg.). Cost of production amounted to P10,230 under natural condition and from P12,691 to P15,172 with flower inducer. Return on investment was negative with the control whereas about 20 to 140% with flower inducers during the first year, projected subsequently to 160-345%. The negative return was taken as an explanation for the slow development of mango as a commercial crop until the advent of flower inducers
