Summary, Etc.
The study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of hot water treatment and hot fungicidal suspension in controlling postharvest diseases and improve packaging techniques for mango. Carabao mangoes were dipped in 50-55 deg C water and 550 ppm benlate at the same temperature range. After air drying, the fruits were packed in perforated and nonperforated cartons. All packages were stored at 10 deg C. Ripening of packed mangoes was slow at low temperature storage. No appreciable change in color was noted after one week of storage. Total soluble solids increased but titratable acidity decreased regardless of treatments. Neither hot water nor hot benlate totally eliminated anthracnose infection. However, minimal infection (0.5% at 10 deg C) was noted only on the second week of storage and this did not decrease the saleability of the fruits. It was also concluded that low temperature retards the development of the anthracnose organism
