$aA total of 79 corn entries were evaluated from 1986 to 1989. Cargill had the highest grain yield of 3.56 t/ha and the longest ear, largest stalk and ear diameter and highest 100 seed weight. Seed yield had a mean of 2.26 t/ha. Among the open pollinated varieties tested in the 1987 dry season, IPB Var 1 was the top yielder (1.997 t/ha) followed by PRDC 11, UPCA Var 5 and UPCA Var2 with yields of 1.93, 1.73 and 11.67 t/ha, respectively. The top yielding corn hybrids were Pioneer 3274 and 3228, PYCH 55, and SMC E, with yields of 2.12, 2.10, 1.98 and 1.97 t/ha, respectively. IPB Var 1 x 13 with grain yield of 1.35 t/ha and IPB Var 1 x P5 with 1.32 t/ha were the two top yielder among corn top crosses. No top cross entry outyielded the check variety IPB Var 1(1.95 t/ha). During the 1989 dry cropping season, there was a 72% yield reduction under the partial shade as compared to full sunlight conditions. Mean grain yield under shade ranged from 0.85 to 1.16 t/ha with a mean seed yield of 1.02 t/ha.
