Title StatementNutritional components of farm families food baskets in Region III
General NoteMunoz, Nueva Ecija: CLSU, 1986. 32p
Summary, Etc.Nutritional components of farm families in Region III and relevance of some sociodemographic variables to nutritional well-being of families were determined. Alternative solutions on the improvement of the nutritional status were also identified. A total of 227 respondents, composed mainly of farm housewives, were of the mean age of 40 and 41, for Zambales and Tarlac, respectively. Majority were plain housewives, while the rest engaged in sales work like vending, storekeeping, buy and sell and in-service jobs like dressmaking. Amount of money at hand, nutrient content of food and food preferences of the farm families were the factors considered in buying food. Meal patterns in Zambales consisted mainly of fish, meat and less vegetables. Higher cost of vegetable supplies which come from Baguio and nearby provinces prevented greater vegetable consumption. Tarlac, a vegetable growing province had cheaper food supply. Meal preparations consisted of vegetable and fish. Farm families were observed to be undernourished. Low income, education, and ignorance of proper nutrition were vital sociodemographic factors affecting the nutritional status of the families
