Summary, Etc.Based on a set of criteria as a yardstick for success, nine coco-based processing enterprises, three each from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao were identified with the assistance of the cooperating agencies. The coco-based processing enterprises include coco coir, lambanog, buko pie, charcoal, bahalina, guinit hat, cocowood handicraft, coco oil and nata de coco. A series of visits and interviews were done during the documentation phase. Assessment was done using the Rural-based Enterprise Development (RED) approach to ascertain the success and viability of the enterprises and to determine possible areas for improvement. The study showed that coconut product diversification through processing can increase income of the farmers or of the entrepreneurs. Moreover, the successful coconut processing enterprises studied contributed to some extent to the development of the community where they were situated
