Title StatementOrchid Myccorrhizae: from wood decomposer to orchid booster
Physical Description51p
Summary, Etc.Orchid mycorrhizal fungi (OMF) can greatly increase the growth of newly transferred seedlings. Determination of OMF would reduce inorganic fertilizer and fungicide inputs and efficiently produce orchids for export purposes. Suspected OMF were collected. Three out of theĀ 10 collected fungi were chosen based on their abundance, capability to degrade potential substrate of orchid hosts, and the availability of technology for mass production. The three fungi were designated as Gevan 1, Gevan 2, Gevan 3. Randomly, these were inoculated to five crosses of in-vitro-cultured Dendrobium sp. seedlings grouped according to size: small, medium and large. The potting media was also studied. Coco pots lined with the combination of charcoal with fern chips or coir dust were used. Five months after the repotting activity, data was gathered. The height, volume, and mass of each seedling were recorded. It was thus proven that the newly collected suspected orchid mycorrhizal fungi were effective growth enhancers of different crosses of Dendrobium. Both fern chips and coir dust were substantial in providing a suitable environment for orchids and fungi using coco pots as the potting container
