Title StatementPhysiological techniques for maximizing cotton productivity. II. Use of growth regulators to enhance branching
General NoteBatac, Ilocos Norte: Cotton Research and Development Institute, 1981. 14 p
Summary, Etc.Two growth regulators (MH and Ki) at 100 ppm were sprayed at UPLC-3 cotton variety plants at 40 and 80 DAE to evaluate the most effective schedule that could enhance branching. Their effect on seed cotton yield and the cost and return of MH (100 ppm) sprayed at 40 and 80 DAE in a larger experimental scale were also considered in the study. Plants sprayed with Ki at 80 DAE gave the highest number of bolls per plant, percent boll set, weight per boll and seed cotton yield; but it produced the least number of flowers. Application of MH increased the number of sympodial branches and the number of flowers. MH treatment at 40 DAE delayed flower development due to the formation of additional sympodial branches. The delay led to boll weevil infestation at peak flowering that may have caused low boll count per plant, low percent boll set, low weight per boll and low seed cotton yield. Numerically, MH-sprayed plants produced longer sympodial branches while Ki-sprayed at 80 DAE had taller plants than the rest of the treatments and control. Based on the results, further studies are necessary
