Title StatementPhysiological technique for mazimizing cotton productivity. I. Use of hormones in increasing the number of flower set
General NoteBatac, Ilocos Norte: CRDI, 1980. pp. 265-276. -(Annual Technical Report Crop Year 1979-80; Vol. 2)
Summary, Etc.Three hormones (25, 50, 100, and 200 ppm gibberellic acid, ascorbic acid, and cycocel) under three levels of fertilizer rates (0, 75-25-25, and 150-25-25 kg NPK/ha) were evaluated to determine their effects on flower setting and seedcotton yield. Fertilized plants generally had more flowers, bigger bolls and higher yield. The application of hormones did not affect the number of flower set and boll weight. However, significant differences were observed on the number of bolls per plant and percent boll retention. Highest average number of bolls was obtained in plants treated with ascorbic acid at a concentration of 200 ppm applied before flowering and cycocel at 25 ppm applied at flowering, with 7.62 bolls/plant. Hormones in combination with fertilizer application had a significant effect on seedcotton yield and percent boll retention. Plants fertilized with 75-25-25 kg NPK/ha treated with 50 ppm ascorbic acid applied at flowering gave the highest percent boll retention (69.20%). Plants treated with 200 ppm ascorbic acid before flowering and fertilized with 150-25-25 kg NPK/ha gave the highest seedcotton yield of 4.72 t/ha
