Title StatementIndoor method in the mass production of penaeids (penaeus monodon fabricus and penaeus indicus H milne edwards) in MSU-IFRAD by MSU-IFED Seed production team
Physical Description1-22
Summary, Etc.This paper presents the "indoor"ยท method in the mass production of Penaeus monodon Fabricius and Penaeus indicus H Milne Edwards in MSU-IFRD, Naawan, Misrunis Oriental covering the period from January to December 1979. The method refers to the culture of algae to feed the larval shrimp in separate tanks and added to the. rearing where sunlight is utilized to grow phytoplankton as food in the same water with the larvae. This paper also specifies a few modifications of techniques involved in spawner collection and transport, the care of larvae and postlarvae, fry harvest and transport techniques. Based on 42 hatchery operations and 158 spawners collected from Panguil Bay, a total of 617,000 P. monodon (sugpo) fry were harvested. Of these, 52,000 fry were used for various experimental purposes in the rearing ponds of MSU-IFRD and a total of 165,000 fry were transported to various fishponds in Northern Mindanao. For P. indicus (hipong puti), two hatchery operations with 35 spawners produced a total of 12,094 fry which were utilized in the URe-funded project and stocked in MSU-IFRD rearing ponds: 10,000 fry for other experimental studies; and another 10,000 fry transported to Talisayan, Misamis Oriental.0
