Summary, Etc.In view of the study's sample size, the null hypothesis 1HO: Information-seeking behavior is not dependent on personality traits, was accepted and the alternative hypothesis was rejected. The null hypothesis of the information source preference; 2HO: Information source preference is not dependent on personality traits was likewise accepted and the alternative hypothesis rejected
The data was analyzed with the use of three statistical tools: namely, Correlation, Chi-Square and Stepwise multiple regression. The correlation test did not find any significant relationships between the independent variables and the dependent variables. The Chi-Square test and the stepwise multiple regression analysis pointed to risk-taking as a personality trait that influenced information-seeking behavior, among the respondents of the study. Achievement-orientation showed its influence on information-seeking behavior as indicated by the Chi-Square test
The results of this study pointed to risk-taking and achievement orientation as predictors of information-seeking behavior while information source preference was not in any way influenced by any of the personality traits investigated
The study used a survey instrument composed of two parts. Part I was a set of statements extracted from the Management Systems International's Personal Entrepreneurial Competencies Self-rating questionnaiare which pertained to the personality traits and information-seeking behavior of entrepreneurs. Part II contained questions that were used to gain a profile of the respondents and their enterprises with one question pertaining to information source preference
This study attempted to corroborate the studies of Triana et al (1984) and Welsch and Young (1989) in the Philippine context; i.e. whether Filipino small and medium business entrepreneurs/owners-managers' personality traits influenced their information-seeking behavior and information source preference(s). The personality traits (independent variables) investigated were Self-esteem, Locus of Control, Risk-taking, Innovativeness, and Achievement Orientation. The dependent variables were information-seeking behavior (operationalized by active and passive modes) and information source preference (operationalized by personal and non-personal media). Just like in the studies of Triana et al (1984) and Welsch and Young's (1982), this study was based on the theory of personality which states that psychological characteristics underlie behavior. Personality here was understood as the unique and relatively enduring internal and external aspects of an individual's character that influence behavior in different situations
Three hundred names were randomly chosen out of four sources-Roster of UPISSI clients for their MPEX Project, Brochures of the 28th and 30th Gifts and Houseware Market Week of the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) and lastly, the Small Business Information Series: Directory of Producers of the Bureau of Small and Medium Business Development/Department of Trade and Industry. There were 53 respondents whose responses merited analysis
