$aThis paper is a study of the use of time as a production economic resource, that is, its allocation subject to economic constraints and objectives.  The specific purpose of the study are:  to present a theoretical framework for the analysis of the allocation of time resources within the household in general, and of the married woman's time resources in particular.  This will involve mainly a restatement of Becker's theory of time allocation; to study empirically the variations that occur in the time budgets of mothers as a consequence of differences in (a) family size and composition; and (b) work status of mothers.
