Summary, Etc.The presence of primary, secondary and tertiary alkaloids was detected in the stem extract and the leaf extract of Pedilanthus tithymaloides using ethanol as extracting medium. The presence of deoxysugars and steroid nuclei, two structural components of cardenolides and bufadienolides has been established. No anti-bacterial activity using four solvents (ethyl acetate, water, ethanol, hexane), the milky sap, and the juice from the crushed plant material was observed. The test organisms were Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis and staphylococcus aureus
